Salary expectations

Sparkie salaries start at around $94,000 per year for someone new to the industry. From there, your salary increases with your responsibilities and working conditions.

An experienced High Voltage Electrician with 5-10 years of experience can earn between $170,000 and $220,000 per year. Because every mine site (and contract) is different, salaries can go up or down depending on:

About the job

Every day as a High Voltage Sparkie is different. You may be called on to service mine vehicles, repair faulty wiring in heavy machinery, test and diagnose electrical system faults, install wiring or climb a lighting tower.

But our recruiters are looking for certain credentials to place High Voltage Electricians in mining jobs confidently:

  • Safety-conscious
  • Recognised trade certificate
  • A/C Refrigerant licence (Cert II in Automotive Air Conditioning)
  • Outstanding diagnostic skills
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
